Catapult celebrates city centre move and record label release!
If you’re a lover of electronic music in Cardiff, Catapult Records is no doubt your musical mecca. Catapult is a dance music specialist that has been going strong in the heart of the Cardiff underground for around 20 years! And after 17 years in the shops current location (22 High Street Arcade), the shop is moving into bigger and better premises, just around the corner in Duke Street Arcade, less than a minute’s walk from the current shop.
There are some big plans for our Catapult in their new home – they will be expanding their clothing and DJ products, as well as continuing to stock all the essential beats that you love.
The new shop will boast a new DJ demo area, sponsored by some of the UK’s leading brands, so you’ll be able to get your mitts on the latest DJ wares. Catapult will be carrying on with their popular series of free masterclasses (there are already some sessions booked in, including having Serato and Traktor making their debut in store throughout November and December).
Catapult have been expanding their clothing range, and now houses some of the most exciting and forward thinking street wear labels in the UK – they’ve got Cardiff exclusivity with a number of brands including Diamond Supply Co, Rum Knuckles, Forty Ounce, Any Forty, GRIND London, Unequal Balance and INDCSN.
The new look store will also have private listening stations for vinyl customers, with nice comfy stools so you can take the weight off while you find some tunes. Catapult are also introducing a vinyl club on Thursday evenings for late night shopping if you’ve struggled to find time in the week to call in. Luckily Thursday is usually the day all the new stock arrives!
Before Catapult move, they are having a massive clear out sale, with big discounts on lots of stock. There are t-shirts for £5, 20% off most of the vinyl back catalogue and big savings on DJ Equipment including KRK speakers and Serato.

As if that’s not enough, Buffalo will be hosting a free party for Catapult on Thursday 10th November, celebrating two great moments in the store’s history. After 17 years, CATAPULT is moving to a brand new and larger space in Duke Street Arcade, and the shop’s own label is about to release the new vinyl single by Ystrad Mynach’s RATCATCHER.
CATAPULT has put together an all-star cast of local heroes who are pushing the boundaries of House music in 2011 to perform at Buffalo, including support from THE ORGAN GRINDER, DIDZ, OWAIN K and MAXX:ROACH.
Tracks on RATCATCHER’s new single includes ‘Bubbledub’ – a punchy bassline synched to classy house chords with a mean 808 groove – and ‘Nightlife’, which has a classic vintage feel with crisp drums and distinctive strings.
The event is part of Buffalo’s weekly clubnight SIGNATURE, which has been showcasing forward-thinking electronic music every Thursday for over a year, including JAMES BLAKE, JULIO BASHMORE, MARTYN, GIRL UNIT, MIKE SLOTT, DEADBOY, SBTRKT and FANTASTIC MR FOX.
